Earlier this week it was reported that Southampton FC were refusing to accredit photographers who wished to attend their home matches and media organisations should obtain syndicated pictures from Digital South, a local photographic agency.

It appears however that they didn’t figure on the boss of Digital South, Robin Jones, considering the bigger picture and the longterm implications of signing a contract that would help Southampton FC set an unwelcome precedent. Speaking to SportsjournalistUK Mr Jones said, “I disagree with their stance on a total ban of photographers from any media source”. He went on to outline that he had conveyed his reservations to the club and his postion to various media who contacted him.

We salute Digital South for their principled stand – despite the fact that it may cost his business.
