Reuters ban Raw Image Files from freelance photographers

There are many reports across the internet that Reuters want their freelance photographers to submit images as JPGs and not RAW.

Two reasons for this have been suggested:

  1. Time.

  2. Truth.

It is quicker for a photographer to directly send the camera jpg file than to process a RAW file and send. Hence clients get the images quicker.

Many sites claim that news agencies can identify if an image captured by the camera as a native jpg file have been manipulated. It is also true that a RAW file allows for greater manupulation than the jpg.
