Vincent O’Byrne named “Master of Craft” by Guild of Photographers

The new look Guild Of Photographers has recognized one of Ireland's outstanding photographers – Vincent O’Byrne. He, and Tony Nutley, have been given the distinction of becoming the Guild’s first two Masters – A title which is in effect a ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award offered by invitation only for ‘outstanding contribution to the art of photography’.

Stop43 organisation makes new proposal on Copyright

Stop43 propose to allow “cultural use” of so-called orphan works and for this cultural use to switch all other uses and users to “known” works, to stimulate cultural and economic activity to the benefit of everyone. To enable this they propose some changes to current copyright law and the establishment of a National Cultural Archive, which must be free to use.

Photographer up in court over non payment of VAT

Today's Irish Times carries a report of a court action being taken by the revenue commissioners against Kilkenny based photographer, Niall Williamson. The photographer, who pleaded not guilty, is accused of 115 offences relating to VAT. The amount of VAT in question was 157,000 euro on sales of nearly e1.4 million euro.
