Freelance photographers hit by new rights-grabbing contracts

Bauer Media, one of the UK's largest publishing companies, is rolling out new contracts to its freelance photographers, grabbing all of their copyrights and moral rights in perpetuity, BJP reports.

The IPPA have confirmed to its members that they have formed a committee to investigate if it is a good idea to have a "Licence to Trade" for photographers. While the email sent stated that the proposal was only brought to Council last Monday we understand that discussions have already taken place with a Junior Minister, the PPAI and the NUJ.

Today's Irish Times carries a report on a what happened to Liam Doyle who took photographs during a Circuit Civil Court case in Dublin yesterday. His mobile phone was seized and he was told, in court, he had just committed an offence.
